New York Giants’ David Diehl undergoes surgery to repair broken finger – NFL News
New York Giants’ offensive lineman, David Diehl, underwent a surgery to repair his broken finger, which was injured in the National Football League (NFL) regular season a couple of months ago.
Despite being injured, Diehl participated in the games, but he took certain precautionary measures to keep himself available for the team.
He had a cast over his left hand, which affected his performance. However, he asserted that his participation was in the team’s best interest and said that he would have played the game in any other situation as well.
He said:
“Especially when it’s your left hand and you have a cast over it. But this isn’t just about me. This is about my teammates and my brothers. I can’t say enough about them.”
On Monday, February 13, 2012, he uploaded a picture of his finger’s X-ray on his Twitter account.
The image clearly showed screws inserted in Diehl’s broken finger. However, he left a message for his followers, confirming that he is fine now.
He tweeted:
“Well it's good to know that my hand and finger are now fixed. Does anyone need screws?"
Diehl played the Super Bowl XLVI matchup against New England Patriots in Indianapolis with the injured hand and got rewarded when the Giants won the NFL title.
Addressing an honorary parade after coming back home, Diehl said that the team needed him and that’s why he decided to play with the broken finger.
He said:
“This is a team game and not only myself. We’ve got tough guys on this team. That’s the thing. We talk about ‘all in.’ It’s not about yourself, it’s about the guys lining up next to you.”
David started his professional career with Giants in 2003 and has started all the games he has played so far.
He started the recently concluded season as the team’s left guard, but moved to the position of left tackle after the season-ending eye surgery of Will Beatty.
David is expected to start the next season fit and healthy.
Meanwhile, the Giants have added a few players to their roster.
They include, guard, Chris White, defensive end, Craig Marshall, and tight end, Ryan Purvis.
