New York Giants Eli Manning and Jason Pierre-Paul do not want to play in the Pro Bowl – NFL News
Despite receiving a prestigious inclusion in the National Football Conference’s Pro Bowl squad, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul do not want to play the game and are eyeing the Super Bowl.
As per the rules of the National Football League, players of the teams that qualify for the Super Bowl are not allowed to participate in the Pro Bowl game.
The Pro Bowl will be played on January 29 at Aloha Stadium, Hawaii whereas the Super Bowl is scheduled to be played on February 5 in Indianapolis.
At the moment, the Giants are tied for the first spot in the NFC East division with Dallas Cowboys. Both the team will face each other on Sunday to decide the division winner, which will eventually reach the playoffs.
The Giants are hopeful that they will beat the Cowboys and continue their winning run in the playoffs.
Despite aiming for the Super Bowl, Manning thinks that it is an honour for him to be named in the Pro Bowl squad.
This season, he has started all the 15 games for the Giants. He has completed 335 passes of 556 attempts for 4,587 yards. He has thrown 26 touchdowns and 16 interceptions and carries a quarterback rating of 90.3.
However, he feels that it will be more fascinating if his team reaches the Super Bowl and he starts the game there.
“Obviously, with the new way that the Pro Bowl has gone, you don’t really want to be playing in the game. You’d rather be getting ready for the Super Bowl. So hopefully that’s the case and we’ll see what happens,” Manning said.
It is the second time in Manning’s career that he is selected for the Pro Bowl. He made it to the Pro Bowl in 2008 and was impressive in leading the NFC to a victory.
The same opinions were voiced by Jason Pierre-Paul. At the same time, Jason, like Manning, also said that he was delighted to be a part of such a prestigious squad.
“Just feel the joy right now. I’m having a good feeling even though I knew I could do it all along. I’m happy because everybody sees it now. They know that I am one of the key players that the Giants have on their team,” he said.
Jason is playing in his second professional year after being drafted by the Giants in 2010. This season, he has started 11 games and recorded 81 tackles and 15.5 sacks.
