New York Giants’ Eli Manning excited about Super Bowl XLVI against New England Patriots – NFL News
While expressing excitement for the Super Bowl XLVI matchup against New England Patriots, New York Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, said on Thursday, February 2, 2012, that he has worked really hard to reach here and does not want the opportunity to slip
out of his hands.
In his eight-year National Football League (NFL) career, Manning has reached the Super Bowl second time.
He led Giants to victory in the Super Bowl XLII against Patriots and now will be competing against the same opponents for his second Super Bowl ring.
Manning said:
“Having been in the NFL for eight years, you realise how rare it is to get here – how special it is and what a great opportunity it is. You don’t want to let these opportunities slip away.”
Manning has played all the games in this season for his team.
In 16 games of the regular season, he completed 359 passes of 589 attempts for 4,933 yards while throwing 29 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
During the three playoff games, in which the overall performance of the team was marvellous, Manning completed 76 passes of 123 attempts for 923 yards. He sent eight touchdowns and only one interception.
Manning can certainly lead the Giants to another Super Bowl victory, but he will be up against Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady, who will be playing in his fifth Super Bowl.
Brady has won three Super Bowls and his dream of winning the fourth was crushed by Giants in the Super Bowl XLII.
However, he can fulfil that dream now.
Brady completed 401 passes of 611 attempts in the regular season for 5,235 yards. He sent 39 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In two games of the postseason, he completed 48 passes of 70 attempts for 602 yards and sent six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Manning is well aware of the danger he will be facing. He said about Brady that:
“Tom Brady is a terrific quarterback. He is a Hall of Famer, obviously, going into his fifth super bowl. Just saying that says enough about him and his performance and the career he has had.”
Manning is rightly excited about this game, but he should control his feelings and focus more on the game to get the victory.
