New York Giants’ Eli Manning happy on Denver Broncos’ Peyton Manning’s return to the sport– NFL News
New York Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, who is the younger brother of Peyton Manning, who has recently joined Denver Broncos after being released by Indianapolis Colts, has said that he is happy for his elder brother’s return to the sport.
Peyton, who played for Colts for 14 years after starting his career with them in 1998, did not play any game in the last National Football League (NFL) season owing to a neck injury.
It was the first time that he had missed any game in his entire career and his absence hurt his team badly as Colts finished at the bottom of the league ranking table after winning only two games in the season.
Since Peyton is still not hundred per cent fit and could not pass the team’s physicals, Colts started contemplating his release and eventually cut the player citing financial issues as the reason behind the release.
Peyton was in the limelight from the last two or three months, and his release was anticipated even before the end of the last season.
It was also speculated that he could join New York Jets.
Earlier, when Eli was asked about Peyton’s prospects of joining Jets, he said that ‘it would be fun if Peyton came to New York’.
Peyton, however, ended up joining Denver Broncos.
He held meetings with the teams of the National Football Conference (NFC) regarding his potential signing, but Peyton was reportedly not interested in joining any NFC team so as to avoid competition with Eli, who is a part of an NFC East team.
Now, Eli is happy about his brother’s return to the game and is not worried about the team he chose to join. Eli said:
"I'm just happy he's playing football this year. Last year, not being able to watch him on Sundays, on highlights, it was different. It was really the first time since I've been playing football that he wasn't."
Broncos had to cut the sensational Tim Tebow to create room for Peyton. Some teams showed interest in acquiring Tebow, but he surprisingly ended up joining Jets as Mark Sanchez’s backup.
Eli also said that he had a little idea that Tebow would not join Giants. He said:
"I had a feeling he wasn't going to the Giants. I kind of like to see who the Giants are bringing in, which players that we might lose. That's kind of what I thought."
