New York Giants’ Eli Manning reflects on the team’s preparation for next season – NFL News
New York Giants’ quarterback and Super Bowl XLVI Most Valuable Player (MVP), Eli Manning, has rejoined the team in its offseason voluntary workout programme and the player seems excited to be back with his teammates, who will be defending the National Football
League (NFL) title in the next season.
While addressing media on Thursday, April 19, 2012, Manning discussed the team’s offseason plans and said that it would be a very difficult task to defend the title and win the Super Bowl again.
Giants are expected to visit the White House to meet the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, who would honour the Super Bowl winners.
However, Manning thinks that the visit will not affect his preparations for the next season. The quarterback has joined the team after a two-month break and though he feels that it will be euphoric to meet the president, he is not allowing his focus to get
strayed.
Manning said:
“My focus is on this season. There is no point re-living last year. There will be a few moments - obviously when we have the ring ceremony – when you go to the White House and do those things you are celebrating getting your ring and the fact that you
are champs.”
He added:
“But from a preparation standpoint and from being in here, I think our focus is definitely on this season – getting prepared and getting ready.”
Meanwhile, Manning also spoke about his elder brother, Peyton Manning, who has recently joined the Denver Broncos after parting ways with Indianapolis Colts – the franchise with which he spent 14 years since starting his career.
Peyton missed the last NFL season owing to a neck injury, which eventually became the reason for him to leave Indianapolis Colts.
When asked whether he had some involvement in Peyton’s decision of choosing Broncos over other potential suitors, Eli said that he had a talk with his elder brother regarding different options, but the decision was Peyton’s own.
Nevertheless, Eli was happy to see his brother back in the game after one year and said that it did not matter to him for which team his brother played. He said of Peyton:
“I’m just happy that he will be in uniform next year.”
