New York Giants: From defeat in the first game to winning the playoff match – NFL Special Part II
Continued from part I...
Against Buffalo Bills
The Bills also gave a tough time to the Giants and came close to beating them, but the Giants held their nerves and managed to get a field goal in the final quarter to get three important points.
By halftime, the scores were levelled.
Giants got the lead in the third quarter, but it was neutralised by a touchdown from Seahawks in the final quarter.
At 1:32, Lawrence Tynes scored a 23-yard field goal to ensure victory.
Against Miami Dolphins
After enjoying a bye week, the Giants hosted Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins scored two touchdowns and a field goal to get a seven-point lead over the Giants by the end of the third quarter.
As always, the Giants rallied in the final quarter, scoring a field goal and a touchdown, thanks to the Manning-Cruz combination, to beat the Dolphins.
At New England
Everybody expected a thrilling game when the Giants travelled to play the New England Patriots.
The game lived up to the expectations as the spectators witnessed a highly thrilling clash.
The first half of the game went scoreless.
It was in the third quarter that the Giants scored a touchdown and a field goal while the Patriots could not reach the opponent’s end zone and ended up getting a single field goal.
The Patriots got the lead in the final quarter after scoring two touchdowns and a field goal.
With only 15 seconds left on the clock, Manning sent a touchdown pass to Jake Ballard and earned a victory.
At San Francisco
The Giants were once again able to build a three-game winning streak. Aiming to extend the streak, they travelled to San Francisco.
The 49ers had only lost a game when they took on the Giants.
The defence of both the teams played well and prevented the opponents from reaching the desired end zone.
As a result, no touchdown was scored until the halftime mark and the 49ers were leading through more field goals.
The Giants scored two touchdowns in the second half, but the 49ers responded sternly by getting the same number of touchdowns supported with a field goal.
Once again, the Giants could not get more than three victories in a row and were handed their third defeat of the season.
Against Philadelphia Eagles
The Giants had already beaten the Eagles once in the regular season and they were confident about repeating the result when the two sides met again.
However, the Eagles had different plans, and in a low scoring game, the Giants were restricted only to a touchdown and a field goal.
On the other hand, the Eagles had two touchdowns and a field goal that supported their cause of taking revenge.
The Giants’ losing streak stretched to two.
At New Orleans
The dejected Giants were up against one of the league’s strongest offensive sides, the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints scored seven touchdowns and easily won the game by a margin of 25 points.
Manning fulfilled his responsibility, but the defence could not support its quarterback as it gave away 49 points.
It was the third straight defeat for the Giants.
Against Green Bay Packers
The Giants’ next opponents were the ruthless Packers, who had not lost a single game when they visited New York in Week 13.
The Giants, against all odds, came close to beating the Packers, but a field goal right at the end of the final quarter gave them a three-point lead.
The defence of both the teams was exposed badly during the game, but the worries increased for the Giants as it was their fourth straight defeat, which allowed their NFC division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, to take the lead in the division ranking.
