New York Giants GM Jerry Reese shares his views on the 2012 season – NFL News
New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese has expressed frustration over the team’s disappointing performance in the 2012 season which they finished without qualifying for the playoffs.
Although the Giants won their Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the win only helped them secure a second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East, behind the leaders Washington Redskins.
They finished at 9-7, and Reese believes that the team could have done much better, especially after winning the Super Bowl last season.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Reese said of the team’s performance with respect to better quality of talent available on the roster:
“It’s very frustrating when you go out there and you see us play very well at some point during the season and then at other times, we don’t play very well. It’s a head scratcher a little bit for me and for the head coach and for everybody in the organisation.”
He added:
“Our goal is to win a championship every year and when you don’t win it, it’s an opportunity lost as far as I’m concerned. We felt like there were some talented players on the roster, but it really doesn’t matter because we didn’t come together as a team
at the right time.”
This season is over for the Giants, but they are not wasting any time preparing for the next season. Admittedly, there will be some roster adjustments, some new faces will be introduced, and some key figures might be released.
The next couple of months are going to determine the Giants’ intentions for the next season. The management could bring changes in the coaching staff and might even replace head coach Tom Coughlin. However, no such reports have surfaced yet.
Also, the team might release some main players in the offensive and defensive unit, and hire some relatively fresh talent from the free agency before heading towards the 2013 draft.
It all will depend on what the management is planning on doing the next season. It should also be noted that the issue of salary cap will also come into account when it comes to hiring and firing players and officials.
