New York Giants LB Mark Herzlich enjoys working out – NFL News
At this time of the offseason when most of the voluntary activities are over and the players are waiting for training camps of their respective teams to begin, it is a bit surprising to see New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich still visiting the team’s
facility and working out.
Instead of taking time off, Herzlich prefers training, which, according to the player, keeps him fit throughout the year.
Herzlich started his professional National Football League (NFL) career last year, but he was unable to play the entire season.
He played 11 games while starting two in which he registered a total of 12 tackles. He suffered an ankle injury while playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was forced out of the rest of the regular and postseason games.
Herzlich is looking to earn the starting role and wants to be a part of team in the longer run. He thinks that if he trains properly and impresses the coaches, they might select him as the starter.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Herzlich is of the view that he is capable of earning the role if he convinces the coaches that he can lead the team to victories in the 2012 season.
He asserted that the team is going to start with those players who can benefit it the most and maintained that he can be one of them.
Herzlich is not ruling out competition as well, but the player is keeping his focus on learning as much as possible. He said:
“It’s all a competition. I think the good thing about the Giants is they want to win and I think whoever gives them the opportunity to win will be able to start at that position. For me right now, it is just learning the plays and knowing them, as well
as I can so that way I can go in and let my play speak for itself.”
Giants will start their training camp at the end of July and Herzlich is going to continue his training till then. He said of working out during the offseason:
“For me, this is enjoying myself. If I went somewhere and took weeks off, I’d be mad at myself that I wasn’t working out, because this is enjoying myself.”
