New York Giants’ Marvin Austin and Prince Amukamara hoping for comeback against Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New York Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin and cornerback Prince Amukamara, who missed the team’s season opener against Dallas Cowboys owing to separate injuries they had sustained during the preseason, are hopeful of returning to the team for Week 2
game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, their status is still not confirmed.
Although the players have shown determination to return to the field so as to help their teammates, who were unable to find rhythm against the Cowboys, the Giants management will not allow them to step on the field unless they are completely fit.
During the preseason game against Jacksonville Jaguars, Austin hurt his back and was forced out. After missing the season opener, the player has started practising, but Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is not committing anything as far as the player’s participation
against Buccaneers is concerned.
According to the details present on the team’s website, the head coach said of playing Austin:
“We’ll see. I think how he comes back tomorrow, we’ll know a little better.”
Austin, who was drafted by the Giants last year, was unable to play any game in his rookie season owing to an injury. If he plays against the Bucs, the game will mark his National Football League (NFL) regular season debut. The player said of the opportunity:
“It’s big. Just trying to play smart ball. Just go out there, do my assignments, read my keys and let everything happen and the play may grant me….it will come out. As long as I’m doing my job within the defence, within the scheme, I should be okay.”
Meanwhile, Amukamara seems to be a bit dejected with the way the defending Super Bowl champions have started their season campaign. He wants to be out on the field and play his role in taking the team to victories this season. He said:
“I need to be out there performing and showing the organization that I appreciate them picking me. For myself, the most important thing is going out there and being healthy and trying to go out there and help my brothers out.”
The Bucs will play against the Giants on the latter’s home field.
