New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora claims possibility of being traded – NFL News
It has been a long time since New York Giants’ defensive end, Osi Umenyiora, is seen pressing on his demands of getting a new long-term deal from the team, but no concrete conclusion has come around this development.
Earlier, it was said that Giants and Osi would reach an amicable conclusion, but it was later reported that both stakeholders were unable to agree on the financial terms of the new deal.
It was also reported that Osi might leave Giants to join any other franchise of the National Football League (NFL) if he did not get the desired deal.
According to the latest report around this development, however, Osi is also fine if the Giants decide to trade him.
In an interview to SiriusXM Radio, Osi claimed that his trade is possible.
As usual, he reiterated his stance of being willing to end his professional career with the team that drafted him, but he also acknowledged that anything is possible when it comes to business.
He said:
“There’s a chance (of a trade). I would’ve liked to start and finish my career with the same team, but it’s a business. The Giants have to do what’s best for them and obviously I have to do what’s best for myself at this point.”
Osi added:
“I feel like whatever happens over this weekend happens.”
Earlier, Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, also expressed hopes of finding solution to this issue and expressed a desire of having Osi with the team for a long period of time.
However, Osi, 30, doubts that Reese is going to do something to ensure his long-term association with Giants.
The apparent reason behind his perception is the presence of young defensive ends in the team and Osi thinks that in presence of the young players, Giants might not want to bring him back.
When asked about how he feels of Reese expressing intentions of bringing him back, Osi said:
"I was happy that he said that. But is it really going to happen? I don't think so. I doubt it because of the situation that they have with Jason (Pierre-Paul), Justin (Tuck), Victor (Cruz) and Hakeem (Nicks) coming up (eventually), a bunch of young players
they have to take care of."
Osi’s contract with Giants will expire after the next season.
