New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora defends former quarterback Kurt Warner – NFL News
New York Giants’ defensive end, Osi Umenyiora, has come to the rescue of former National Football League (NFL) quarterback, Kurt Warner, who recently highlighted the violent nature of the sport and said that he would not want his son to play in the league.
Warner, who has also played for Giants and now works for the NFL Network, gave his remarks on the aggressive nature of the sport after which former NFL wide receiver, Amani Toomer, reacted sternly.
Toomer was of the view that Warner should have kept his opinion to himself without trashing the game. While giving an interview to
NBC Sports Talk, Toomer said:
“I’d definitely have my son to play football. That’s what the Toomer family does. We all play football. But what this reminds me of is the guy at the basketball court, who once he gets done playing takes the ball and ruins the game for everybody else.”
He added:
“I think Kurt Warner needs to keep his opinions to himself when it comes to this. Everything that he’s gotten in his life has come from playing football.”
The league has been facing a plenty of issues in terms of players’ safety and security of late.
Many former players have filed petitions against the league for not taking active measures to ensure players’ safety while the recently revealed bounty scandal has forced many to change their opinions on the violent nature of the game.
Warner was also speaking in the light of these developments, but Toomer was certainly not happy with his remarks.
Osi, who was also in the limelight due to his impending contract negotiations with Giants recently, has favoured Warner in this situation.
He recently tweeted:
"Love Toomer thats my Guy, but he is dead wrong for attacking Kurt like that.”
Osi also acknowledged that the sport is violent and aggressive. He also said that he would not want his son to play in the professional league, but at the same time, the defensive end added that he will not stop his son if he wants to play.
There is no denying the fact that the sport is violent and aggressive and the league should do whatever it can to ensure players’ safety and security.
