New York Giants Punter Steve Weatherford has no problem in staying motivated – NFL News
The New York Giants face a daunting task in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season as they are going to defend the Super Bowl title they won after defeating New England Patriots in February this year, but their punter Steve Weatherford does not think
that Giants will face any problem in staying motivated.
Weatherford, who won his first-ever Super Bowl ring this year, believes that presence of head coach Tom Coughlin is more than enough to keep all the players motivated.
New York Post quoted Weatherford as saying:
“I don’t think we’re ever going to have any problem being motivated. I think a lot of your motivation and the direction of your energy is controlled by the head coach, and we got the best coach in the game.”
Coughlin was Giants head coach when they won the Super Bowl in the 2007 season. During the course of two Super Bowl victories, Coughlin faced some tough times as well.
Even at the start of the last season, Giants fans did not consider him an ideal coach and some even called for dismissing him, but the top officials kept their faith on the coach and it eventually paid off.
Since only one team gets the chance to defend the title every season, pressure is certainly on the Giants, but Weatherford, under Coughlin’s guidance, wants to extract all the possible gains out of it.
Giants are going to start their training camp on July 26 and the punter has urged his teammates to give their best shot so as to win the title again. He said:
“Make it count, because you only get one opportunity to defend what you did. It’s not like you can defend your title the year after you didn’t win it. You only got one chance to do it, so make it count.’’
It is not common to see any team defending its title successfully, but the passion and determination deserve applause. However, Giants are up for a rollercoaster ride in the upcoming season as they face stiff challenge from a number of teams.
In their own National Football Conference (NFC) East division, Giants have threat from Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. They have to prepare really well to overcome this and other challenges.
