New York Giants QB Eli Manning calls for ball protection against Washington Redskins – NFL News
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has called for better ball protection in the game against National Football Conference (NFC) East opponent, Washington Redskins, on Monday.
It is the second meeting between these two sides this season. The first one took place in Week 7 and the defending Super Bowl champions were able to emerge victorious.
However, the Giants, despite the win, had many areas to work on and they cannot get complacent as they prepare to face the Redskins again.
In their previous meeting, Manning finished with completing 26 of his 40 attempted passes and gained 337 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.
The quarterback, who was fabulous during last week’s victory over Green Bay Packers, has said that he needs to protect the ball well and control turnovers.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Manning said:
“I think we need to protect the football. They do a good job on defence at getting turnovers. They do a good job at getting pressure so we have to protect the ball offensively and be patient. Hopefully we’ll have the right calls at the right times and hit
some big plays.”
The quarterback further said:
“I had two turnovers last time in the game so we need to fix that. I thought we were very good at third-down last time. I thought we were pretty good in the red zone getting touchdowns. I thought we played pretty well most of the game, except for those two
turnovers.”
Manning had not been at his best during the last few games, but he found his rhythm against the Packers last week and led the offence in a very strong manner.
Manning scored three touchdowns against the Packers and did not give away any interception. If he keeps on playing well and carry that form into the game against the Redskins, the Giants can have a strong chance of winning it.
Manning has to perform well because the Redskins offence, led by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, is playing very well and it keeps on generating scoring drives frequently. So it is expected that the Redskins will continue to get points and to outscore
them Manning must keep on getting scoring drives too.
