New York Giants QB Eli Manning reflects on his performance against Washington Redskins – NFL News
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has expressed satisfaction over his performance in Week 13 defeat against Washington Redskins, but admitted that there were some missed opportunities that should have been utilised.
Giants’ loss against the National Football Conference (NFC) East opponents has now reduced the difference between the defending champions and second-placed teams in the division to only one win.
Manning, who had struggled to perform well during a few straight games and got back to rhythm after the bye to defeat Green Bay Packers last week, was relatively better against the Redskins as well.
He finished the game completing 20 of his 33 passes for 280 yards and scored one touchdown. Most of his scoring drives resulted in field goals rather than touchdowns and at the end the Giants fell only one point short of the Redskins.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Manning reflected on his performance against Redskins and said:
“I thought there were some good throws. I thought I moved around the pocket and extended some plays and had some good things.”
Manning added:
“I had some missed throws also. Early on, I had Hakeem [Nicks] on a go-route that was a little underthrown. I overthrew [wide receiver] Victor [Cruz] down the seam. In the third quarter, I had a shot to hit Hakeem near the goal line in an in-route that I
put it a little out in front. I thought there were a lot of good things and good throws. I thought we missed a few opportunities though.”
Manning struggled to get scoring drives during the second half during which the Giants only got one scoring move, a field goal in the third quarter.
Although a large number of penalties became the main reason for the Giants defeat, they offence must realise that it has to keep on getting scoring moves, because their next few games are scheduled against teams with strong reputation on offence and defence.
In this situation, Manning along with other players on the offence must find ways to penetrate their oppositions’ offence, and maintain pressure on the opposition right from the start.
