New York Giants QB Eli Manning shrugs off Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ comments – NFL News
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is not a hothead, unlike many other players in the National Football League (NFL). The two-time Super Bowl winner is calm and smart enough to understand the nature of activities happening around him.
Talking to NFL AM, Manning talked about the recent comments made by the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and it looked like the quarterback did not take the remarks seriously.
Jones had earlier said that the Cowboys would “beat the Giants’ a*s” in the 2012 season. Generally, these comments would have infuriated any other player, but Manning is a different breed. He said of Jones’ comments:
"In this time, in this day, you can't listen to what every single person says and worry about it. (Jones) is trying to rally his fans. ... We just got to focus on these preseason games."
Giants and Cowboys are divisional rivals in the National Football Conference (NFC) East and both teams faced each other in the last game of the 2011 regular season as well. It was a do-or-die game that was won by the Giants.
Both these teams are going to kick off the 2012 season campaign while facing each other in the season opener in September and these developments are enough to develop hype of the game, but nothing else.
Giants have work hard to defend their Super Bowl title and, as Manning said, they will have to focus on performing well as their opponents are going to be tougher in the upcoming season. Apart from Cowboys, Giants have to deal with the Philadelphia Eagles
and Washington Redskins as well.
Manning mentioned that the Giants have a good roster and they can make it to the playoffs yet again. However, he maintained that the players will have to give their best shot. The quarterback said:
“It’s a matter of going out there and proving that, and everybody playing to their level of play.”
He added:
“That is where our challenge is. We know each year if you don’t come out and give it your all and play to the best of your ability you aren’t going to win football games and we have to maximize our talents.”
