New York Giants’ QB Eli Manning wins MVP award for second time in his career – NFL News
It was all about the Manning family on Sunday, February 05, 2012, as following the example of his elder brother, Peyton Manning, the Colts quarterback; New York Giants’ QB, Eli Manning, has managed to claim the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second
time, after having played a tremendous role in his team’s 21-17 Super Bowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots.
Peyton has won the MVP four times during his professional career and his younger brother, Eli, has now landed this honour twice into his favour.
The player in the Super Bowl game managed to complete 30 out of the 40 passes for nearly 300 yards. This included a touch down pass. He also had zero interceptions and was especially more attacking in the last quarter of the game, which helped his team to
stage the victory over their opponents.
"That was quite a drive that he was able to put together," Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, said. "He deserves all the credit in the world, because he really has put his team on his shoulders all year."
Eli himself did not say much about his achievement, calling the Super Bowl win to be the most important milestone of his career, which had been able to reach twice during last four years.
"It just feels good to win a Super Bowl. Doesn't matter where you are," Manning said, clutching the silver Vince Lombardi Trophy. "It's been a wild season. We had a great, tough bunch of guys who never quit, and had faith in each other. I'm proud of these
guys sticking together."
Manning was facing another QB, Tom Brady, who is equally impressive in his profile; and he through a strong comeback in the later stage of the game proved that he was no way lacking talent and skills of any of the QBs around the National Football League
(NFL).
His final 80-yard touchdown drive with only about a minute left to closure of the game sealed the victory for the Giants. This is for the second time that the New York Giants overpowered the Patriots, they beat them in the Super Bowl championship in 2008.
It was yet again that Eli has helped his team to overcome earlier deficit to ensure a victory for themselves at the end; he had been repeating his late recovery skills more frequently in the regular season.
He was backed by his elder brother, Peyton Manning, and his father, Archie Manning, who also had played the league as a quarterback, and were apparently excited to see him performing so well on the field.
Peyton himself has achieved the MVP award four times to be the only player on the league to have this distinction.
