New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks practises, hopeful for Week 2 game – NFL News
New York Giants received good news on Thursday, September 13, 2012, when their star wide receiver Hakeem Nicks took part in full practice after missing the session a day earlier.
Nicks has been dealing with a foot injury since the offseason and although he was able to play the season opener against Dallas Cowboys, he still is not hundred percent.
Since the Giants were defeated in their first game, they want all of their key players to be fully fit as they host Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday for Week 2 game.
It is not sure if Nicks is going to take part in the next practice session, but his full participation in Thursday’s practice session strongly indicates that his chances are bright for Sunday’s game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said of Nicks:
“I think it was really good for him to be out here on the grass. The fields are exceptional. He moved well, he moved well.”
Nicks said after the practice:
“Did a full practice today, so real good.”
He further said:
“We’ll see what they say about tomorrow when I come in. But to my knowledge I know I was practicing today, so we’ll see about tomorrow and then maybe it’ll just be working my way in. Next week it will be a little bit more.”
In the season opener, Nicks caught four passes for 38 yards. The Giants need to improve on offence and defence as well so as to defeat Tampa Bay and presence of players like Nicks is going to be crucial for the Giants’ offensive line.
Nicks still has some soreness on his foot, but the injury does not affect his game. He has claimed to be strong-minded and has shrugged off possibility of any setback due to the injury. He said:
“The mind overcomes all, so I’m strong-minded. I feel like if I’m out there, I’m going to be ready to do everything that I can do.”
Giants are the defending Super Bowl champions and the loss in the first game has badly hurt them. They will come out strong against Tampa Bay, but they will also make sure that they do not risk any player’s fitness.
