New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks ruled out of another game – NFL News
New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has been ruled out of yet another game after missing the last two owing to a foot injury.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin announced on Thursday, October 4, 2012, that the wide receiver will not play in their Week 5 game against Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
Nicks suffered a foot injury during the offseason, but returned to play for the team in the regular season. He participated in the Giants season opener against Dallas Cowboys and was brilliant against Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Giants’ Week 2 victory.
However, he missed Week 3 game against Carolina Panthers, while he was also not allowed to play in Week 4 game against Philadelphia Eagles.
Since Panthers’ game was scheduled on Thursday night, Giants preferred giving the receiver rest. However, his absence from the game against Eagles surprised many and there were fears that the injury might continue to bother the player.
The same has happened as he has been ruled out of another game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Nicks did not take part in this week’s practice and was eventually ruled out.
In Nicks’ absence this season, Giants have won and lost one game respectively.
Nicks’ absence has also affected plans of offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, who said of the player’s absence:
“Well, you’re losing a terrific football player who not only is extremely important to what you do, he’s invaluable just in terms of his leadership and his ability in the bigger the moment to make the bigger play, so you lose that and you know that and you’re
not going to make it up with one guy.”
Gilbride has hoped that other players will step up in Nicks’ absence to provide support to the offence. He said:
"What you hope is collectively the rest of everybody will contribute enough that you can make up for his absence to enough of a degree that you win the game. That’s what you’re looking for.”
Giants, the defending Super Bowl champions, are currently placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East and injury to players like Nicks is not a good omen for them.
