New York Giants WR Victor Cruz appreciates quarterback Eli Manning’s calmness – NFL News
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who scored the game-winning touchdown against Washington Redskins after combining with quarterback Eli Manning for a 77-yard move, has appreciated the quarterback’s calmness.
Cruz is of the view that Manning performs amazingly well under pressure without panicking. This is not something new for the quarterback. He seems to have developed a reputation of being a quarterback, who is at his best under pressure.
It is a rare trait for a player and that is what makes Manning so special. Last season, he led the team to many fourth-quarter wins and the quarterback has helped the team stage a few comeback victories this season as well.
He did it against Redskins as well. Giants were three points behind with not much time left on the clock when Manning got the final touchdown.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Cruz said of Manning:
“Eli never wavers, he’s never distraught out there; he’s never panicking.  He’s always calm.  He understands what he has in front of him and he’s going to go out there and read each defence differently and make the right reads and make the right throws.
He threw a couple interceptions but he kept plugging away and we were with him 100% and it showed down to the wire.”
Meanwhile, Cruz also expressed his views on getting first divisional victory of the season. Giants are leading National Football Conference (NFC) East with five victories and two defeats. Both of their defeats have come against divisional opponents – first
against Dallas Cowboys and second against Philadelphia Eagles. So a victory against Redskins also helped gain some confidence because they are going to play one more game against each of the three divisional opponents this season.
Cruz mentioned that it was an emotional game for Giants. The wide receiver said:
“There was definitely some hooting and hollering going on, understanding that we needed this victory, and as an offence, we needed this bad. We proved us getting the football and driving down the field.”
Giants are going to play their next game against Cowboys and they are hoping to avenge defeat of the season opener.
