New York Giants WR Victor Cruz “won’t be OK” with Carlos Rogers’ salsa – NFL News
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz’ signature end-zone dance in celebration of his touchdown has been discussed a lot of time this week, especially in context of this Sunday’s game between the defending Super Bowl champion and San Francisco 49ers.
In the regular season meeting between these two teams last year, 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers mocked Cruz by doing salsa dance when he registered an interception.
Cruz did not like it and discussed his feelings about that move in his recently released book as well. However, Rogers recently stated that he would do salsa once again this Sunday if he found any reason to do so.
As expected, Cruz did not like Rogers’ statement, saying that the dance is ‘sacred to him’. Talking to reporters via a conference call, Cruz said of the dance:
"It's just something that I do for my grandmother. It's something that's sacred to me, it's something that's due to her passing. Before she passed away, it was something dear to me.”
He added:
"Why I do it is for her because she told me she loved it so much, and she taught me how to do it and all of that put together. Knowing that, it's just a little slap in the face."
Cruz further said that he would not do anything ‘crazy’ if Rogers danced knowing how sacred the move was for the Giants wide receiver.
He said:
"I obviously won't be OK with that. But it is what it is. He's going to choose what he wants to do. I'm not going to try to retaliate or go crazy.”
Last year when Rogers mocked Cruz by doing salsa, he did not know that it was so special to Cruz.
Cruz’s grandmother recently passed away and it makes the dance even more special to him.
Realising how important this move is for Cruz and that his grandmother is not in this world now, Rogers might not mock Cruz during the game. The 49ers cornerback has acknowledged that he did not know this information before.
This seems to be a good gesture of sportsmanship, indicating that the game will be played in high spirits.
