New York Giants acquire linebacker Keith Rivers from Cincinnati Bengals – NFL News
The New York Giants have traded their fifth round pick for the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts with Cincinnati Bengals in favour of their linebacker, Keith Rivers, different reports citing credible sources claimed on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
Earlier, it was reported that Bengals and Giants were in contact over the possible trade, but the recent reports have suggested that the trade has taken place. However, no official statement has yet been given either from Bengals or from Giants.
Rivers, 25, started his professional NFL career in 2008 with Bengals. In his rookie year, he could only play seven games before receiving a season-ending injury.
He played and started 13 games in the next season in which he recorded 72 tackles. In 2010-11 season, he started 13 games while playing 15 and registered 77 tackles.
Overall, Rivers has posted 186 tackles in three years he played with Bengals.
It is expected that Giants will announce his appointment formally within a couple of days.
On the other hand, Giants have also signed offensive tackle, Sean Locklear, who has played for Seattle Seahawks and also spent some time with Washington Redskins.
Locklear started his professional NFL career with Seahawks in 2004. He spent seven seasons at Seattle before joining the Redskins with whom he only played one season.
After joining the Giants, Locklear said that he is excited for the opportunity. He said:
“It’s exciting. I was on the other end of two games against the Giants last year – followed them pretty well in their run to the Super Bowl.”
He added:
“But, actually, when I got the call I was kind of excited about the chance to actually play in New York and who doesn’t want to play with the team who just got done winning the Super Bowl? My thing is to just get in here and start fresh, start learning again
and try to help this team get back to where they want to go.”
Giants will begin their offseason conditioning programme on Monday and Locklear is going to join his team members there.
According to his overall career statistics, Locklear has played a total of 105 games while starting 82.
