New York Giants agree to terms with former New England Patriots’ Antwaun Molden – NFL News
The defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants, have signed former New England Patriots’ cornerback, Antwaun Molden on an unspecified deal.
The formal announcement of the signing was made by the team management on Monday, April 16, 2012.
Molden, who is still in early stage of his professional National Football League (NFL) career, played his last game against the Giants in the Super Bowl XLVI matchup. He was a member of Patriots’ defensive unit then, and he is hoping to have same level of
fun with Giants as he had during his brief association with the Pats.
Molden said:
“It was a great experience playing in the Super Bowl. In the Super Bowl, you get a playoff atmosphere times five. I definitely had fun with the Pats. It’s an experience I would definitely like to get back to.”
Molden started his professional NFL career with Houston Texans in 2008. He played three seasons with the Texans, who eventually waived the player in 2011 before the start of the regular season.
The cornerback was claimed off waivers by Patriots the next day after his release by Texans. With Patriots, Molden started two games of the regular season while playing 16 in which he recorded a total of 36 tackles.
Giants already have Justin Tryon, Prince Amukamara, Terrell Thomas, Corey Webster, Michael Coe and Bruce Johnson serving at defensive positions and it will not be an easy run for Molden to compete with all these players to prove his worth.
However, he seems excited about spending time at New York with the Giants and said that he has always liked the team. The player said:
“It’s exciting to be here. I like everything about this situation. I like the coaching staff. When I was coming out of college I liked the Giants – I liked the defence, I liked the players. They recruit good players. There’s a team-first attitude. They’re
selfless. That’s the blueprint for success and you see that here. That’s what I want to be a part of.”
Molden has never played as the regular starter either with Texans or with Patriots. However, he could earn a starting role with Giants if he lives up to the management’s expectations.
