New York Giants and David Carr agree to a one-year deal – NFL News
Impressed by the team’s locker room environment, quarterback, David Carr, has re-signed with New York Giants for the next National Football League (NFL) season. The deal is reportedly worth around $925,000.
Carr will continue to serve as Eli Manning’s backup. He said of the team’s locker room environment:
“It’s a great environment. Guys keep you humble. They keep it loose. No one takes themselves too seriously, and with all the egos and all the good football players, you’d think that would be a problem. But there’s really not that issue in this locker room.
That’s why I like to be a part of it. It makes it very easy to come back.”
Carr started his professional NFL career in 2002 with Houston Texans. After playing for five seasons with Texans, he joined the Carolina Panthers and played one season with them.
In 2008, he signed a one-year contract with Giants and got another one-year deal the next year.
In 2010, Carr joined San Francisco 49ers and served as backup for quarterback, Alex Smith. 49ers released him before the start of the last season and he once again joined the Giants in 2011.
In the last season, he did not play any game and earned the Super Bowl ring as a backup for Eli Manning, who was declared the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP).
It is only with Texans that Carr has played as a starting quarterback. However, he does not seem worried about playing as a backup. He said:
“I feel really comfortable here. I know that if given the opportunity and put in the position to play on this team, I would do well.”
Carr’s re-signing is in the interest of both parties as Giants will not need to bring in a fresh face and teach him their methods. Since Carr has already spent around three years with the Giants, he is familiar with the working conditions.
Also, Giants won the Super Bowl this year and that makes them a favourite destination for many players.
While reflecting on the team’s performance during the last season, Carr appreciated the players’ fighting spirit and said he feels great to be around such competitive players. “I think it’s one of the reasons I came back,” he said.
