New York Giants and New England Patriots ready for the Super Bowl rematch – Super Bowl XLVI Preview
The world waited for four years to see this happening, and now we are finally here!
After months of struggle and hard work, two undoubtedly the best teams of the National Football League (NFL) are set to battle for the highest league honour.
The National Football Conference (NFC) champion, New York Giants, and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion, New England Patriots, will face off each other in the Super Bowl XLVI matchup on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at the Lucas Oil Stadium in
Indianapolis.
The Giants-Patriots rivalry is being nurtured steadily since the encounter of both these teams in the Super Bowl XLII.
Giants got the game-winning touchdown with 35 seconds left on the clock to steal the show and end Patriots’ undefeated run in that season.
Giants and Patriots met each other during the current regular season game, which also resulted in former’s favour, 24-20.
This time around, Giants got the game-winning touchdown with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
However, since that meeting, New England has not lost any game and is currently on a 10-game winning streak, which it would certainly want to stretch.
And who would be more desperate to do so than Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady, whose dream of joining the elite quarterback group by winning four Super Bowls was crushed four years ago.
In his 12-year career, Brady has already won three Super Bowl rings.
He could have received another ring four years ago and might have been competing to get fifth, which is highest by any player in the history of the league, but that’s not the case.
Brady, who has played four Super Bowls, will be the most apparent danger to the surging Giants.
“If he gets a sense of what you want to do to him before he snaps that ball, it is going to be pretty much impossible to stop him with the weapons that he has around him and his knowledge of defences,” Giants defensive end, Justin Tuck said of Brady.
Brady will up against a team, which has displayed remarkable improvement in its rushing and defensive game.
The Giants entered the playoffs as one of the league’s worst defence.
However, they outclassed teams like Green Bay Packers, which was the defending Super Bowl champion, and San Francisco 49ers that had one of the league’s best defences.
Besides, Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, is playing top-notch football and having the best time of his career.
He received many hits during the game against 49ers, but still did not lose his energy and led his team to the victory – something which even prompts Brady to praise Manning.
Brady said of Manning that:
“He was getting drilled, but he kept making throws, trusting his protection. He came through when they needed him.
Brady added that:
“He’s certainly a great leader, and plays at an extremely high level. I have a ton of respect for him. He’s a great quarterback for that team.”
Four years ago, Tom Brady was sacked while Eli Manning was not. As a result, Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin’s head was up and Bill Belichick’s was not.
Now both these teams have the same coaches and the same quarterbacks. Who will come out victorious can be known only after the big game.
