New York Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, against commenting on Jason Pierre-Paul’s claims – NFL News
A day after New York Giants defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP) confidently claimed that his team would beat the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers, next week, Giants coach, Tom Coughlin refrained from commenting on the claim and said on
Monday, January 9, 2012, that he would talk about the meeting between the two teams on Wednesday.
When asked about his opinion on the matchup between the two sides, Coughlin played his cards close to his chest and said that he wants to discuss performance in the last game with the players before moving forward.
“I am not commenting on that. It is just like right now, let us study them and then we will talk about them on Wednesday. I realise everybody is anxious and I am, too. I told the players that and let’s cover the game and learn from the game we just played,
let’s keep things in perspective, let’s get started looking at some tape but let’s not get too carried away just yet. Wednesday will be a nice time for that,” he said.
The Giants defeated the Falcons on Sunday, January 8, at the MetLife Stadium in the wildcard round.
After the victory, JPP said that his team has got what it takes to defeat the Packers. While recalling his team’s victories in last three of the four games of the regular season, he said that the Giants have found their winning ways back.
The Packers have already defeated the Giants this season during the regular season. JPP also said that his side is ready to take revenge.
The Giants reached the playoffs after topping the National Football Conference (NFC) – East division whereas the Packers dominated the NFC North division to enter the postseason.
The Giants will head to Green Bay to play against the Packers on Sunday, January 15. The winner of the game will qualify for the NFC championship final.
In the 2007 season, the Giants defeated the Packers to win the NFC championship final. That year, the Giants went on to win the Super Bowl.
Since that season, both teams have never met in the playoffs.
Coughlin, who was also Giants coach in 2007, further said that his team would try to beat the Packers in the playoffs once again.
He seemed satisfied on how the team improved its defence and rushing game against the Falcons and said that it would give them a strong advantage over the Packers.
Earlier, Giants running back, Brandon Jacobs, also said that the contest between the two teams would be a ‘dogfight’.
With so much happening around before the game, a thrilling encounter is certainly on the cards. It is yet to be seen what coach Coughlin thinks about the Packers and how he is going to prepare the Giants to play against them.
