New York Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, pleased to be associated with the NFC champions – NFL News
New York Giants defeated San Francisco 49ers to become the National Football Conference (NFC) champions and among many of the jubilant faces, one was of the head coach, Tom Coughlin, who is pleased to be associated with the Giants.
Coughlin addressed media on Monday, January 23, 2012, and shared his views on the championship game.
He could not help but admire the courage and strength of his team, which, at one point of the National Football League (NFL) regular season, was looking utter failure.
The Giants have been in a must-win situation from the last few games of the regular season. They won three of their last four games, and then succeeded in three of the postseason games to clinch the NFC title.
They defeated Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers and the 49ers en route to achieving this glory and set a matchup with New England Patriots for the Super Bowl XLVI, to be played in Indianapolis on February 5.
Coughlin commented on the team’s comeback that:
“It is very humbling as well to realise that as you have fought your way back into respect if nothing else. Our players have rallied and won five single elimination games in a row.”
The Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007-08 under Coughlin and it is a great achievement for this coach to once again lead the team to the NFL title.
When asked about how he had developed chemistry with the team, Coughlin again gave the credit to the players.
He was of the view that the players are mature enough to understand how the business is run and said that he is proud to be the coach of this team.
“I understand young people and all that goes with that, but these guys have been able to really create a very strong business-like approach to what they’re doing. Whether you use the word fellowship or whatever word you want to use, there’s a strong, strong
feeling among this group. It’s been a great source of pride for all of us as coaches to be associated with this group of young men.”
The Giants have beaten the Patriots in one of the regular season games, but it would not be easy to face them in the Super Bowl.
The Pats have won 10 games in a row and are the American Football Conference (AFC) champions.
Coughlin said that after taking a day or two off, the players would resume their training start preparing for the Super Bowl.
