New York Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, preaches significance of Super Bowl XLVI – NFL News
The National Football League (NFL) needs just one more game to decide whose the best among the participating teams, and the pleased New York Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin wants his players to understand the importance of being among the best two sides to face
off in the Super Bowl XLVI.
On Thursday, January 26, 2012, when Giants conducted first practice session for the Super Bowl game, Coughlin brought up the subject of historical significance of this game and urged the players not to forget the tough competition they face, en route the
title game.
During the NFL regular season, many observers predicted that Giants might not even qualify for the playoffs. However, the team stunned everyone.
Now when they look back at their surge in which they not only top the National Football Conference (NFC) – East division, but outsmarted some of the league’s best teams to become the conference champions, Coughlin wants the players to take a moment and feel
the result of their hard work.
He commented:
“It is an opportunity to be in the biggest game of them all again and that is exciting.”
The coach added:
“That is what you work for. That whole year is about planning and preparing for this opportunity and for us, this team was pretty much written off at one point in time, so that makes it even more significant for all of us.”
Giants won the Super Bowl in the NFL 2007-2008 season, and reached the playoffs the next season.
However, they did not live up to the expectations and failed to even reach the postseason for the next two years.
They worked hard this season, and impressively overcame their flaws to become one of the most threatening units. Their team chemistry and coordination between the elite quarterback, Eli Manning, and his receivers, certainly deserves applause.
Coughlin stressed that the team was preparing to reach this glory right from the day the season started.
He remarked:
“The opportunity that is there for our team and we have been building on this theme for quite some time now, this is not something new that has just been presented to our guys.”
Giants have started their preparation in a perfect way. The coach’s pep-talk is all that is required to boost the players’ morale.
However, they should not forget that the American Football Conference (AFC) champions, New England Patriots, who lost the Super Bowl game against Giants in the 2007-2008 season, will also use every trick in the book to get the victory.
