New York Giants’ cornerback Terrell Thomas will go through rehab rather than surgery – NFL News
New York Giants gave good news concerning their cornerback Terrell Thomas on Monday, August 06, 2012, that the player will be rehabilitating his right knee in order to make himself fit to play in the upcoming season.
Talking to the media, head coach Tom Coughlin said that Thomas went to visit Dr. James Andrews who confirmed that the player was suffering from anterior cruciate ligament on his right knee.
The doctor reiterated that Thomas does not need any surgery in the knee, which has twice gone through Arthroscopic procedure. Coughlin said:
"The group of doctors that have looked at Terrell Thomas (determined) that we try to rehab him and see how he does and if he can get back on the field. He is coming back to camp, he will jump into a rehab program, we will watch him very, very closely."
This is encouraging news for Giants who dearly need Thomas to get back on the field, especially after the departure of Aaron Ross to Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coach Coughlin praised Thomas for being in the positive frame of mind ever since the injury occurred to him. Coughlin said:
"He'll jump in there and I am sure he will go hard. He came to see me before he left (for doctor). He feels very positive about it and told me before he left he really doesn't have any pain, does not feel instability, the knee was not swollen."
Prince Amukamara will be the favourite to get the starting spot in absence of Thomas. Yet he himself failed to participate in the practice session on Monday after having some problems with his hamstring.
Thomas was drafted by Giants in the second round (63rd overall pick) of the 2008 draft and has since played 44 games in the league.
No specific date has been given for Thomas’ return, but Giants will be watching his progress closely.
Looking at Thomas’ injury record, Giants will take all the precautions to make sure that Thomas has a season without injuries.
