New York Giants crush Minnesota Vikings
The New York Giants needed a win to stay in the NFC East title race and they were able to do that rather comfortably. Minnesota’s two games winning streak ended along with Quarterback Brett Favre’s 297 games streak. Tarvaris Jackson
tried to replace Brett Favre as best as he could but it simply wasn’t good enough. Early in the first quarter, Jackson rallied the Vikings to New York’s 3 yard line but that is as far as the Giants would allow him to go. The Vikings had to attempt the field
goal, which was good and the only points the Vikings would score in the game.
The Giants used their rush to great effect. Brandon Jacobs rushed more yards in one play than the Vikings did from the start to the end of the game. Jacobs’ 73 yards set up New York’s first touchdown. Ahmad Bradshaw ran 13 yards,
Jacobs rushed the final yard for touchdown. The Giants quarterback Eli Manning didn’t even have to bother passing because of the effectiveness of the run.
Minnesota has been doing quite well in this season to stop the rush but against the Giants their defence just couldn’t hold it together. The Giants rushed more than twice the yards that Minnesota’s defence has allowed on average.
The offense did no better. Tarvaris Jackson was sacked four times and intercepted once. The barrage of hits temporarily knocked Jackson out of the game. Joe Webb stood in for him for 5 plays. The Vikings came close to scoring a
touchdown in the third quarter after a 55 yard punt was returned for 52 yards by Greg Camarillo. However that is when Jackson threw that one interception of the game.
A second quarter penalty and a 30 yard pass from Manning helped the Giants score their second touchdown. Manning threw 6 yards, short middle touchdown pass to Kevin Boss to put New York 11 points ahead of the Vikings. Late in the
second quarter, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed 48 yards to score the third touchdown of the game. Bradshaw had to leave the game in the final quarter after a wrist injury.
The Giants are tied for first place with the 9-4 Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title. With a record of 5-7, the Vikings are in third place behind the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
