New York Giants’ defensive back Janzen Jackson wants to stay positive – NFL News
Defensive back, Janzen Jackson, was considered as one of the top prospects for the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, but a controversy followed by some failed drug tests hampered his chances badly.
As a result, he was not selected by any team during the draft and was contacted by around five teams after it.
At the end, he agreed to join the New York Giants, who had done their homework on the player including the controversy and drug test.
Now after getting an opportunity to turn pro and make his NFL debut, Jackson does not want to look back and instead focusing on future and developing his skills.
Jackson was suspended by his first college team and later he was charged for an armed robbery attempt. The charges were dropped later, but he was also released by his team for unspecified reasons.
Following the release, he joined FCS McNeese State University and graduated from there.
After the unfruitful draft, he was eventually drafted by the Giants and now he wants to keep his head high.
He said of his past mistakes:
“Just being a boneheaded young player. Coming in, I started as a freshman, so I kind of didn’t think rules applied to me. … You have to learn from the mistakes that you’ve made in the past, move forward and keep a level head because you’re going to have
the controversy with it.”
Jackson added:
“Just keep a level head and stay positive. That’s been my motto.”
He also said that he was in contact with Giants’ scouts since a long period of time, even before the NFL Scouting Combine.
On the other hand, defensive coordinator, Perry Fewell, has appreciated Jackson’s talent and skills.
Fewell mentioned that the team would give chance to all the rookies to prove their talent. He said:
“Janzen does have a lot of athletic ability. A lot of these guys haven’t had the conditioning that you would like for them to have because they have been off.”
He also said that the players should adapt to the conditions and playbook of the team as soon as possible.
Giants have not mentioned how much playing time Jackson could get in the upcoming season.
