New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul confident about beating Green Bay Packers – NFL News
After comprehensively defeating Atlanta Falcons in their first playoff matchup, New York Giants seemed to have instilled new energy in the locker room. Defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul, claimed on Sunday, January 8, 2012, that the Giants will beat Green
Bay Packers next week to qualify for the National Football Conference (NFC) championship final.
Giants outclassed Falcons by scoring three touchdowns and a field goal, while preventing the opponents from taking the ball to their end zone.
Falcons only managed to get two points in the game when Giants' quarterback, Eli Manning, intentionally sacked the ball in his own zone to avoid a sack.
Giants have found their winning ways late in the season, but still, better now than never.
In the regular season, they won three of their last four games to top the NFC East division and reach the postseason.
The defense and the rushing game had remained a cause of worry for them, but against the Falcons, New York silenced their critics by completely dominating the game and displaying a much improved strategy.
They are scheduled to play against Green Bay Packers on Sunday, January 15.
JPP maintained that he is confident about his team's chances of defeating Packers and said that the Giants will give their best shot to overcome their opponents.
“We know what's at stake, and we know it's one and done. We aren't going to let that happen. We are going to go out there and give all-out effort, and we are going to walk away with a win,” he said.
In the regular season, New York Giants was the first team to come close to beating Packers and end the latter’s winning streak in the season.
However, Giants fell three points short as their opponents scored a field goal right at the end of the final quarter.
While recalling the last defeat, Pierre-Paul said that this time the result will be different.
"We are very confident," Pierre-Paul added.
"Last time (the Packers) came in here and they beat us (38-35 on Dec. 4), which they shouldn't have. It's going to be cold and the atmosphere will be theirs, but we're going to be ready to play.”
JPP, who has also been named for the prestigious Pro Bowl squad to represent the NFC team, is just playing his second professional season.
In the regular season, he started 12 games in a total 16, and had 86 tackles to his credit.
Against the Falcons on Sunday, Pierre-Paul recorded eight tackles.
It is indeed thrilling to see the improving Giants aiming for glory, but underestimating the Packers is going to be a mistake.
Packers are the defending Super Bowl champions and one of the league’s strongest offensive sides. Their only weak point is their defense, which the Giants will try to make full use of, with Manning in thundering form.
