New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has hoped that the defending Super Bowl champions will display much better performance in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens as compared to Week 15 game.
The Giants were whitewashed by Atlanta Falcons in Week 15 game and if the same performance, or somewhere near it, is repeated again, the Giants will certainly be sent packing as they are in a must-win situation with just two games left in the regular season.
If things go the other way, the Giants will be eliminated without qualifying of the postseason, and then other National Football League (NFL) teams will fight for the title that is currently held by them.
Umenyiora, however, does not want to see his team losing. The player has hoped that the team will be able to beat the Ravens, who have already qualified for the playoffs this season after winning nine games and losing five.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Osi said when asked if the Giants could win this Sunday:
“I hope so. We’ve been here entirely too many times, but that’s the way things have played out for us and I don’t know why it keeps on happening. But those past years are in the past. This year is a brand new year. I can’t say that it’s going to happen for
us the same way it did in previous years, but hopefully it will.”
The Giants certainly have faced a number of such pressure situations, but they have not always come out of them victorious. Also, the pressure is greater this time because they are the defending champions, and currently tied with two divisional teams (Dallas
Cowboys and Washington Redskins) hoping to make the postseason just like the Giants.
Talking about the last week’s whitewash, he said:
“I really did and we went out there and performed the way we performed, so we can’t use that excuse. I think as a team we just have to play a whole lot better.”
Giants can take advantage of the injury-plagued Ravens’ line-up only when they improve their offence.
