New York Giants delighted after beating Green Bay Packers 37-20 – NFL News Update
After outclassing the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers, on Sunday, January 15, 2012, New York Giants are delighted to qualify for the National Football Conference (NFC) championship final.
Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, was jubilant over the 37-20 victory, commenting after the game:
“I’m very happy for our players, our coaches, and our ownership to come in here against a very, very good football team, a team that had played so well all year long. We were excited to come here and play. We knew what we were up against and I thought we
did an outstanding job”.
The Giants scored four touchdowns and three field goals, while restricting Packers to only two touchdowns and two field goals.
Packers had lost only one game in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL), and were the favourites to win the Super Bowl for the second straight year.
Packers also played Giants in the regular season and defeated them after scoring a field goal right at the end of the final quarter.
However, Packers did not even come close this time and did not, for even a second, showed the class of champions.
Their distinguished feature was their exploding offence that averaged the league highest, 35 points per game, but Giants had done their homework and hindered plenty of Packers’ moves.
“Our defence is playing great with pressure and turnovers. Our offense for the most part is protecting the ball and playing smart football. When we have a chance to make a big play we are making them”, Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, remarked.
Packers’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who still can be declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, was also marked perfectly by the Giants’ defence.
Rodgers could complete only 26 of his 46 attempted passes for 264 yards, while throwing two touchdowns and one interception.
On the other hand, Rodgers’ counterpart, Peyton Manning completed 21 of his 33 attempted passes for 330 yards and managed three touchdowns, while throwing one interception.
The Giants are now going to take on San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
With Giants’ passing, rushing and defensive game getting at its best, it will be a thrilling encounter against the 49ers, who will host the conference championship game.
