New York Giants delighted after winning the National Football Conference title – NFL News Update
When Lawrence Tynes scored a 31-yard field goal in the overtime at the Candlestick Park on Sunday, January 22, 2012, he not only gave New York Giants the National Football Conference (NFC) title, but also a chance to repeat history by winning the Super Bowl,
and no wonders the players are delighted.
Defensive end, Osi Umenyiora, said that he had a dream a night before the game that Tynes would score the game-winning goal, and when the dream came true, he had no words to express his gladness.
He just said that he had all the confidence in Tynes, who lived up to the expectations in the game.
While recalling the slump in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL), linebacker, Jacquian Williams, said that he knew the team had potential to reach this far.
He pointed out that a few players were injured during the regular season, and that’s why, he said, when they returned to the side, the difference was bound to be observed.
Against all odds, the Giants have topped the conference in which teams like New Orleans Saints and defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers, were left behind.
One of the reasons of the success is told by quarterback, Eli Manning, who will play his second Super Bowl, that too against the same opponents.
“When we play our best ball and we win games it’s because offense, defence, special teams are all playing smart football, playing together, supporting each other and finding ways to win.”
The Giants defeated New England Patriots in the previous Super Bowl encounter in 2007-2008 season, and now these teams are set to battle again in the grand event.
The Pats won the American Football Conference (AFC) after defeating Baltimore Ravens in the championship game, and considering their performance in this season, the Giants will have to work really hard to repeat the history.
Left tackle, David Diehl, seems well aware of this fact.
“There are obviously going to be the comparisons to Super Bowl 42 and all of that stuff, but they are a very very very good football team. You have seen the strides that they have made towards the end of the season. We are going to prepare extremely hard
and go there and have to play our best football.”
Despite receiving an overwhelming response from the fans after the victory, the Giants are not getting complacent. They want to clear the last hurdle on their way to attain glory and beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl once again.
