New York Giants dominant in win over the Seattle Seahawks
The New York Giants ran out to an insurmountable 35-0 lead in the first half, leading to a 41-7 win in Seattle against the Seahawks on Sunday, 7 November.
How it happened
Ahmad Bradshaw ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter, while Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw three first-half touchdown passes, as the Giants scored touchdowns on all but their first possession
of the first half.
With the game already well out of reach, the Giants added two field goals in the third quarter before Seahawks backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst finally managed to help his team put points up on the
board by throwing a 36-yard pass to Ben Obomanu.
The Giants were dominant on both sides of the ball, only conceding 162 yards on the day.
What they're saying
Although the Giants completely pummeled their opponents, Manning warned about getting overconfident.
"Don't start thinking we're good right now. Things are going well right now, but we've just got to make sure we stay committed to getting better."
The New York Giants silenced the typically riotous Seattle crowd at Qwest field by moving the football with relative ease.
"The only way to calm down their crowd noise is to move the ball, get first downs to get the crowd out of it," Manning said. "That’s exactly what we did today. They take great pride in their crowd noise,
so it’s always going to be a little loud. We never gave them an opportunity."
Whitehurst, in for injured quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, did little to convince the Seattle faithful that he was the answer to Hasselbeck's critics, but admitted that throwing a touchdown late in the game
did add a small measure of confidence going forward.
"It made it a little better, I guess," he said of his first ever NFL touchdown pass. "But it was a disappointing day for us. I was disappointed in the way that I played and I have to get better."
What it all means
The Giants have won five in a row and improved to 6-2 on the season, as they are tied with the Atlanta Falcons for first overall in the NFC. They get set to host the 1-7 Dallas Cowboys next Sunday, 14
November.
The Seahawks have had an up and down season so far and now drop to 4-4 on the season. Despite only boasting a .500 record, and a miserable minus-51 point differential, the Seahawks, are still tied for
first place in the NFC West. They prepare to take on the Cardinals in Arizona next Sunday.
