New York Giants gearing up for San Francisco 49ers NFC championship matchup – NFL News
The miraculous effort to shock the defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers, has lifted the morale of the New York Giants, who are now gearing up to play against San Francisco 49ers for the National Football Conference (NFC) championship final,
to be played at the Candlestick Park on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
The Giants outclassed Packers’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, forcing him to throw one interception and restricting him to only 264 yards.
Surprisingly, Giants displayed some drastic improvements in terms of their rushing and defensive game, both of which remained a cause of worry for them in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL).
The playoff game against Atlanta Falcons (24-2) was the first sign of their defensive improvements.
The momentum built on against the Packers as well, and now the Giants are up for repeating the heroics against the 49ers.
Giants’ wide receiver, Victor Cruz, thinks that the team is performing well in every area.
“We are riding a lot of momentum, a lot of confidence. We're a scary team right now because of the confidence and amount of passion we are playing with right now. At every position, not just Eli or myself or the defence. Everyone is playing with that same
confidence and intensity".
The 49ers defeated the Giants (27-20) in the regular season game, scoring two touchdowns in the final quarter to get a lead, which New York could not overcome.
Now when they have got another opportunity to play against the 49ers, the Giants do not want to repeat the result.
Linebacker, Mathias Kiwanuka, was of the view that the Giants have worked hard to earn this matchup and vowed to give his best shot to get a victory this time.
“It’s a rematch that we wanted. We earned it. But now we’ve got to go out there and prove it”.
Meanwhile safety, Antrel Rolle, also expressed excitement over playing against the 49ers, but he was more focused on what’s at stake.
Rolle asserted that the most important task for him and the other players is to make sure they win the conference championship, which will open the Super Bowl doors for them, saying that it did not matter who the opponents would be.
"At this point, the way we are playing ball, if we go out there and take care of things during the week, it doesn't matter who you put in front of us”, Rolle commented.
The 49ers have also proved that they are one of the best sides in the league. Under the leadership of first-year coach, Jim Harbaugh, they have proved their mettle.
However, the Giants are also back in form, which is very dangerous for their opponents.
We will have to wait and see if the Giants can continue their run and outsmart the 49ers.
