New York Giants gearing up for Week 2 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers – NFL News
After a disappointing loss against the Dallas Cowboys in the 2012 season opener, the defending Super Bowl Champions New York Giants are hoping to overcome their mistakes as they prepare to face Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 game this Sunday.
The Giants’ defeat against the Cowboys resulted because of the latter’s brilliant performance, but there is no denying that the defending champions failed to put up a strong competition. They struggled throughout the game and eventually paid the price.
The Bucs are coming off an impressive victory over Carolina Panthers in their season opener and Giants have to adopt a very cautious approach against Tampa Bay’s improved defence to create scoring opportunities.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Giants quarterback Eli Manning said of the Bucs:
“They’re talented. They’re fast on defence. They have playmakers. They have a good scheme, so it’s just a matter of everybody knowing their assignments. When we have opportunities to make some plays, we’ve got to do that.”
Giants were unable to take control of the game against the Cowboys. If they are to succeed against Tampa Bay, they have to be aggressive on offence and defence right from the start. Moreover, they must overcome their flaws that include fumbles, drop catches
and many missed opportunities.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was frustrated and disappointed over the team’s start to the season, and as he prepares the team for the next encounter, Coughlin, too, realises that the Bucs are capable of giving tough time to Giants.
Tampa Bay allowed Panthers to score only one touchdown in the season opener and although the former was unable to create many scoring moves, Tampa Bay did well to cover Cam Newton and other players on the Panthers offensive line.
Coughlin has thoroughly monitored performance of Tampa Bay and said of the Bucs:
“Their defence played outstanding, they held the number seven rushing team in the NFL a year ago to 10 yards rushing. It was minus-one at halftime. They’re a good team; they’re a fast team.”
He added:
“We’re preparing, we had one early practice that we introduced some of how we would play.”
