New York Giants’ general manager Jerry Reese speaks of tight ends – NFL News
New York Giants won the Super Bowl XLVI in an impressive manner, but they also received a blow during the game as two of their tight ends, Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum, got injured jeopardising their chances of playing in the next National Football League
(NFL) season.
It is not clear when both will be able to take the field and that’s why Giants are following a contingency plan.
The franchise’s general manager, Jerry Reese, during his pre-draft conference, spoke of the team’s tight end situation and expressed optimism about the team’s future, pointing out the new additions and the existing talent for the tight end position.
In the Super Bowl game, Ballard was injured by Bear Pascoe and the management is hoping to give him more opportunities in the next season.
Moreover, Giants recently signed former Dallas Cowboys’ tight end, Martellus Bennett, and Reese is up for giving him more chances to prove his worth.
Furthermore, Reese also said that the team might hire young talent during the upcoming NFL draft to add more options for the tight end position.
He said:
“Bear [Pascoe] has done a terrific job for us. He’s kind of a joker for us. He can do the fullback. He can do the H-back. He can do the tight end stuff. And Martellus [Bennett], he’s going to have a great opportunity to show us what he can do. We like his
skill set. We think he probably can thrive in this offense and we’re really excited about his chances. We’ll continue to look for guys in free agency and the draft as well.”
When asked about the injury status of both the injured tight ends, Reese refrained from giving an exact timeline for the recovery and return of the players.
However, he did mention that Beckum might recover earlier than Ballard. At the same time, he also asserted that the management is not going to take any risk and give the due recovery time to both players before allowing them to resume playing.
He said of Beckum, who is expected to recover early:
“We don’t want to push him out there too quickly and have a setback.”
