New York Giants get another practice for Super Bowl XLVI, four players still out – NFL News Update
Four of New York Giants’ players again sat on the sidelines, watching the rest of their teammates taking part in the training session as the team practised for the second straight day on Friday, January 27, 2012, with respect to preparation for the Super
Bowl XLVI.
The players who missed the practice included linebacker, Jacquian Williams (foot), cornerbacks, Corey Webster (hamstring) and Will Blackmon (knee), and wide receiver, Hakeem Nicks (shoulder).
All these players including three others did not practise on Thursday.
Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), centre, David Baas (abdomen/neck) and linebacker, Chase Blackburn (calf) were a little better after missing Thursday’s training and stepped on the field on Friday.
However, they did not complete all the reps and were limited during the practice.
Williams, who was injured during the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game against San Francisco 49ers, is unaware of how he sustained the injury.
After the game, he underwent an MRI, which confirmed that the player had a sprain.
As per the latest developments, Williams might not be able to practise for the rest of the week so as to reduce the soreness on his foot.
However, he has asserted that he would take part in complete workout next week and by no means would miss the Super Bowl game.
He commented about his condition that:
“Right now, I am just resting. In a couple of days, I’ll be running. It’s 100 per cent I’ll test it in Indy. I won’t miss this; it’s such a big opportunity for me, for the team. I’ll definitely practise next week.”
Next week, the Giants will be in Indianapolis where they will take on American Football Conference (AFC) champions, New England Patriots, on February 5 in the Super Bowl matchup.
Since Williams is not going to practise at home, he will have to undergo an intense workout to get ready for the Pats.
On the other hand, Nicks is recovering fast, but is still not fit enough to participate in the practice.
He was also injured during the game against 49ers and has hoped to get back on the field next week.
While underlining the fact that he would not miss the National Football League (NFL) title game, Nicks said:
“I expect to be a full go by next week. Just using next couple of days to rehab it. It was painful. I landed right on an AC joint that I have injured a few times this season. Went in and got it taken care of and by halftime I was cool."
Giants certainly want all of their players active and healthy when they travel to Indy. They can only pray that the injured players recover early so that they are all set to take on the Pats in the ever important Super Bowl match.
