New York Giants have Rex Ryan silenced once and for all – Part 2
Continued from Part 1.........
Ryan seemed to neglect the fact that history however, does not point out to the Jets being the better side. The Giants and Jets feud dating back to decades has been mostly dominated by the Giants. The two teams had till then faced each other 11 times and
the Giants had won seven of these games and had a lead of 7-4 in their clashes with the Jets.
Ryan in his desire to make to the Super Bowl had also overlooked the fact that the Giants had won the Super Bowl title in 1986, 1990 and as recent as 2007.
What Ryan had in mind was that the Giants had failed to reach the playoffs for the past two years. And that probably had him thinking that the Giants were going through a bad phase and the Jets taking advantage of the situation could come out to clean them.
That does not suggest that Ryan was short of respect for the Giants.
“I recognize the rich tradition of Giant football. There’s no question. I’m not trying to take a run at the Giants or a shot at the Giants. I want to be the best team in the NFL.” Ryan said.
Whatever be the reason he sure had lots of humiliation and disgrace coming on to him as the Giants came out to rout the Giants 29-14 in a game that had been greatly hyped due to the cold war between the two sides.
The cold war that had been generated between the two sides resulted in a victory for the Giants who had been quite modest in their claims all along the season.
Left to pick up the pieces, Ryan did come out clean on the occasion admitting defeat. There was thus, still some modesty left in Ryan but he still did not regret his big talk.
"I think the day I walked in here. I felt that I didn't want to be the little brother. That's who I am, so do I regret it? No. Did it work out? Nope. I'm never going to say I regret anything that I believe in my heart”, Ryan said.
However, he admitted his mistake and acknowledged that the Giants were the better team.
That does not suggest that Ryan had or has cooled down his tone in any way. He has remained defiant as usual after the defeat insisting that the Jets would go on to win the Super Bowl. However, a defeat to the Miami Dolphins in the season’s finale saw the
Jets being eliminated from the playoffs, although that did not have him not much changed.
Ryan still continues with his endeavours to get the Jets to the Super Bowl and has been expressing his desires again and again on the media.
What however, surely continues to be a source of trouble for him is the success being enjoyed by the Giants this year.
He sure would have been hoping for their defeat which did not come this year. The Giants kept winning and winning to clinch the Super Bowl finally.
Ryan would have desperately waited for the Giants to fail this Sunday but now the Giants will keep reminding him of his own failure and keeping his mouth shut.
The New York Giants defeated the San Francisco 49ers, last weekend in the NFC Championship game to make it to the Super Bowl event and won the Super Bowl after defeating the Patriots 21-17.
And finally the Giants have Ryan silenced once and for all.
