New York Giants have become inspiration for Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones – NFL News Update
Dallas Cowboys’ owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, is pretty much impressed with the way the New York Giants have played so far in the National Football League's (NFL) present season and said about the Giants on Monday, January 23, 2012, that "they're
a real inspiration of, frankly, what I had hoped that we were going to be”.
Giants’ recent success was against San Francisco 49ers, after which they have become the National Football Conference (NFC) champions, and will play against New England Patriots in the Super Bowl XLVI game on February 5.
The Giants went head-to-head with the Cowboys in the regular season and sometimes even fell behind, but they surged in the end to qualify for the playoffs.
The Cowboys, who had maintained the supremacy in the NFC East division for a considerable period of time, lost crucial games towards the end of the season, allowing the Giants to enter the postseason.
The Cowboys lost four of their last five games to end the season at 8-8, falling a game behind the Giants.
On the other hand, the Giants won three of their last four games to qualify for the playoffs, where they won three more games.
Jones said that he expected this kind of performance from his team, but praised the Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, for performing well in the season, saying that he came up big for the Giants.
Jones commented:
“Their quarterback play, as a team they got better and better near the end. I don’t want to take anything away, but the big difference was Eli came up here and started what seemed like a pretty significant (run). But the quarterback play with Eli was the
huge difference,” he remarked.
Jones also said that the Cowboys’ quarterback, Tony Romo also played well, but regretted that the rest of the team could not live up to the expectations.
In 16 games of the regular season, Romo completed 346 passes of 522 attempts for 4,184 yards. He also threw 31 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions and got a quarterback rating of 102.5.
“I thought Romo was competing at a level that would’ve given us that opportunity but the rest of us need to play better and get better before we can really gel the way the Giants are,” Jones said.
No matter how much Jones praise the Giants, the fact cannot be ignored that the Cowboys were outclassed not by the opponents, but by their own flaws.
They will have to work really hard in the next season to prove their mettle.
