New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin: We still have a lot of work to do – NFL News
New York Giants are currently leading National Football Conference (NFC) East after winning six games and losing two. They have a clear edge over other divisional opponents who are far behind the defending champions.
At present, Dallas Cowboys (3-4), Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) and Washington Redskins (3-5) cannot match the Giants, but their head coach Tom Coughlin has refrained from complacency, saying that there is still a lot of work left for the Giants to do.
Coughlin has expressed satisfaction on the fact that the defending champions are leading the NFC East, but the head coach knows that even a slight slump can hurt his team’s chances.
Last season’s example is in front of Giants, who lost four straight games after Week 9, jeopardising their playoff chances.
Giants have another advantage that they are 2-2 in the division and have a couple of more divisional games left in the season. If Giants manage to win their remaining two divisional games, their playoff chances will receive a great boost.
However, it is also essential for the Giants to win games against their other opponents from both conferences. Giants are going to play their next game against Pittsburgh Steelers, who have started finding their rhythm.
All these facts have forced Coughlin not to let his players getting complacent. According to the details present on the team’s website, the head coach has admitted that it is very difficult to get victories in the league, but Coughlin has maintained that
the 6-2 record is not enough. He said:
“It’s just a point that we’ve got to keep going here and we’ve got a very, very tough opponent coming in next week. It just gives you something to move on from.”
The Giants head coach added:
“We’re very happy to be 6-2. We have a long way to go. We have a lot of work to do to be the team that we want to be. While it’s nice to put that number up there, at this point in time, the significance is how we continue to grow and develop as a team from
the start that we’ve had.”
