New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin appreciates DE Jason Pierre-Paul – NFL News
New York Giants defence made life miserable for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who was forced to throw four interceptions in Week 8 game.
One of the highlighting features for the Giants was an interception made by defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP), who not only did well to collect the ball in the second quarter, but also ran with it for 28 yards to score a touchdown that took the Giants’
lead to 23 points.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who has highlighted a number of areas for his team’s improvement even though the defending champions are leading National Football Conference (NFC) East, has expressed satisfaction over the way JPP has been playing.
Against Cowboys, JPP’s interception came in a convincing manner. After the snap, Romo was looking for his options, probably willing to throw to his left. However, his receivers were marked and the quarterback instead threw the ball in the other direction
without judging the magnitude of coverage the Giants had provided there.
JPP was quick to read the quarterback’s mind and made no mistake in collecting the ball once Romo threw it.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of JPP’s interception and touchdown:
“Not only was he able to gather up, he caught it clean and ran it to the end zone. So, it was just an outstanding football play. One of the ones where you see, every now and then, you’ll see a football to the defensive lineman, grabbing it and running for
a score. That happened to us here. You know that it was just a great play.”
Meanwhile, Coughlin also maintained that there are still many areas where his team must work so as to ensure easy entry to the playoffs.
Against Cowboys, Giants lost a 23-point lead, but later came from behind to win the game. The defence conceded the points in second and third quarters and this is where the Giants should work on.
After starting the game aggressively, which rarely happens for the Giants, they could not maintain the lead and this goes to show that they still have a lot of tweaking to do if they want to defend their title.
