New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin disappointed in team’s efforts – NFL News
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has expressed disappointment over his team’s performance against Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9 game.
The defeat ended Giants’ four-game winning run, and although it did not hurt lead of the defending champions in National Football Conference (NFC) East, its impacts could be seen later in the season.
Giants gave away a 10-point lead in the final quarter to lose the game and their players seemed struggling all over the field.
In his postgame comments, Coughlin said of the game, via Giants’ website:
“That’s as disappointing a loss as we’ve had around here in a long time.”
He added:
“Offensively, again, for a couple games in a row we didn’t play well. We didn’t appear to be very aggressive. We certainly didn’t have any first downs.”
Owing to the destructions caused by Sandy in the neighbourhood, Giants were even more emotional and desperate to win the game so as to give people some reasons to cheer about. However, a loss did not help the team’s cause.
Coughlin commented:
“We wanted emotionally so badly to win the game for obvious reasons, for all our neighbours who are struggling and who need some type of inspiration. Of course, we didn’t provide it for them. We didn’t play well and we are going to have to get this straightened
around, some way, some form here, quickly obviously.”
Giants are still leading NFC East with a 6-3 record. If Philadelphia Eagles win their game on Monday, they will come closer to the Giants in the division and the next few weeks then would be very crucial for all playoff contenders from NFC East.
Giants must focus on the mistakes that have committed against Steelers. Their defence must take the blame as a week earlier it allowed Dallas Cowboys to stage a comeback. Thankfully, the offence rescued the team then, but this time the offence, too, was
helpless.
Meanwhile, Coughlin also praised Steelers for playing good football and said that the visitors deserved credit for the win.
Giants are now hoping to win their Week 10 game against Cincinnati Bengals to enter their bye with confidence.
