New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin disappointed with running game – NFL News
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has expressed disappointment over the team’s flawed running game against Washington Redskins.
Although Giants managed to win the game and the head coach was certainly pleased about it, Coughlin, for whom the running game has been creating some problems, clearly stated after the game that the running game should improve.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of the running game:
“I’m disappointed, I’m always disappointed. But we won the game. The important thing for everybody to realise is that the object is to win. Somehow, some way, find a way to win. Now, I’m not happy with the turnovers. You know we had done such a great job
running it and not turning it over and we, quite frankly, kept the game alive with our turnovers.”
The Giants managed to gain only 64 rushing yards against the Redskins’ 248 yards. For Giants, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 43 yards, Andre Brown for 17 yards, while Eli Manning ran with the ball for four yards.
On the other hand, Giants’ passing game was much better. They gained a total of 329 yards against Redskins’ 232 yards.
Running game has been causing some troubles for Coughlin lately. Although the running backs have done well to even provide scores and victories a few times, the head coach is not impressed with the overall output and inconsistency.
Coughlin further said:
“We’ll look at it. We knew we had to sustain and get movement. You aren’t going to just come off the ball. These people need to be moved.”
The victory was Giants’ third in a row and first over their divisional opponent this season. They have faced defeat against Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles in National Football Conference (NFC) East.
The victory also gave Giants sole leadership in the division and put Redskins at its bottom. Giants are 5-2 and a couple of more victories will certainly make playoff qualification easier for them. However, to get consistent victories, they need good performance
from every department and running game, at present, does not look very much impressive. Giants must improve running game to ensure an easy entry in the postseason.
