New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin disappointed with this season’s performance – NFL News
Halfway through the 2011 season, no one expected the New York Giants to turn things around. Although they did find some difficulty in doing so during the regular season, once they reached the playoffs, they never looked back and eventually won the Super
Bowl.
Fast forward to the 2012 season, the Giants made a relatively better start, but could not maintain consistency. They kept on falling at regular intervals, hoping to find the form they had shown last season, especially during the playoffs.
However, that did not happen and after 16 weeks of the regular season, the Giants’ chances of reaching the postseason hang in balance. Even if they win their Week 17 game, a playoff berth would not be guaranteed to them.
This is an extremely disappointing situation for the entire team, especially for head coach Tom Coughlin, who is unable to figure out what has happened to the Giants this season.
After their Week 16 defeat against the Baltimore Ravens that has made their playoff hopes very dim, Coughlin said while responding to a question asking him to compare the team’s performance this season with last season, via Giants’ website:
“I wouldn’t even attempt to explain it. Emotionally, I probably don’t have the where-with-all to do that. You fight your whole year, literally from the time one tournament ends to the next. All your sights are on getting in this thing. You can’t make a mark
for your team unless you get in it. We fought so long, and fought so hard, we had our ups and downs. We were sitting where we could determine our own fate and we let that get away from us. It’s very disappointing.”
Giants will play their Week 17 game against Philadelphia Eagles. At present, they are tied at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East with the Dallas Cowboys after winning eight games and losing seven. Washington Redskins are currently leading
the division at 9-6.
Redskins and Cowboys will face each other in Week 17 game. If Cowboys win this game and Giants beat Eagles, the three teams (Giants, Cowboys and Redskins) will tie atop the division at 9-7.
