New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin hints at some surprising moves – NFL News
The 2012 season is over as far as the New York Giants are concerned, and after months of action from the players on the field, it is now time for the management to come in the limelight.
The season certainly did not end the way the Giants wanted, and this will make the role of the management even more crucial as many changes are expected to occur as the team prepares for the next season.
There could be some new faces in the coaching staff, but as far as players are concerned Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has already hinted at making some surprising moves.
A day after Giants’ Week 17 win against National Football Conference (NFC) East opponents, Philadelphia Eagles, Coughlin reflected on the season and expressed utter disappointment on not being able to qualify for the playoffs.
The head coach maintained that there will be some changes aimed at the betterment of the team. Coughlin said, via Giants’ website:
“Nothing stays the same. You’re going to have, you change. Some of your younger players have to develop, quite frankly, in more ways than just one.”
He added:
“One of the things that you find a lot of times with young players is they struggle to get their arms around what the National Football League is all about. For some, it happens quick. For others, it doesn’t. There will be some people in that category that
will be major surprises, and probably some that will be disappointments.”
Many teams that could not qualify for the playoffs have taken some drastic rebuilding measures. Some have fired their general manager, while some have sent their head coach packing. However, the Giants have not yet hinted at any such change.
Both general manager Jerry Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin are expected to return next year, but Coughlin did slightly touch the topic when asked if he would be with the Giants next year. Coughlin responded:
“As I’m standing right here, if they’ll have me.”
The Giants have finished this season at 9-7, securing second spot in NFC East, behind Washington Redskins who have secured a playoff berth after winning 10 out of their 16 games.
