New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin hopeful despite team’s failure on field – NFL News
The New York Giants have failed a number of times this season to perform well on the field. They usually have a pretty good week of practice leading up to the game day, but they have been unable to carry the week’s momentum on to the field.
This is not just a case of one week. In fact, the Giants have suffered badly because of this, and it might as well take away the playoff chance from them.
With only one more game to play in the regular season, the Giants are kind of helpless. They have to win their game, but also have to wait for the outcome of Washington Redskins-Dallas Cowboys game to see if they can make the playoffs this season.
So even if they win their Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, there are chances that they might not qualify for the postseason. This, however, has not deterred the Giants, especially their head coach Tom Coughlin.
Coughlin has already accepted the responsibility of the team’s failure and, but he is not giving up. The playoff hopes are very dim for the Giants but they are more than enough to keep them going.
When asked if the players in the locker room are also hopeful of their playoff chances, Coughlin said, via Giants’ website:
“We didn’t play well, but it doesn’t mean that we weren’t aware of the circumstance, that we didn’t realize the situation and the hope. Why we’re playing the way we’re playing is something that I’m sure will be my responsibility when the season is over.”
The Giants head coach added:
“Our weeks have been solid weeks in which people have been positive. Everything that we’ve done has been positive, but when we take the field, it’s been a different story. There are a lot of reasons maybe for that, which I’m not going into. Nevertheless,
don’t tell us we haven’t had hope. We’ve had it.”
Meanwhile, the Eagles might start with veteran quarterback Michael Vick against the Giants. Their rookie quarterback Nick Foles is reportedly injured. Coughlin has admitted that Vick’s inclusion in the squad will make the Giants prepare in an entirely different
way.
