New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin impressed with victory – NFL News
After losing their season opener against Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants had prepared well for their Week 2 encounter, but the defending Super Bowl champions had to face pretty tough time in securing victory over Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
Giants struggled to find their rhythm and managed to accelerate in the final quarter when they were trailing by more than 10 points. They staged a spectacular comeback, thanks to a brilliant offensive show. Giants got a total of 25 points in the final quarter.
“It was a heck of a football game being down at the half and coming out with the result that our players did and it didn’t start out well,” Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said according to the team’s website.
The victory was important not because the Giants are the defending champions, but because the National Football Conference (NFC) East is a very competitive division and Giants do not want to give other teams any edge.
Washington Redskins, Cowboys and Giants have won and lost one game each so far in the division, which is led by Philadelphia Eagles with two shaky victories.
Coughlin understands how important it is for his team to continue giving competition to other teams of the division. He said:
“If you look at our division, which is where we always go, three teams are now 1-1 and the Eagles are 2-0 and that’s the primary thing, is to be able to stay right with the pack and keep yourself in the ball game in terms of that. If you win, that’s a great
thing. If you lose, you’re scrambling, and I wouldn’t go into detail on the 0-2 because we’re 1-1.”
Quarterback Eli Manning was star of the show for Giants. He did struggle with accuracy as he sent three interceptions, but he was able to stage another final quarter comeback to win the game. In total, he gained 510 yards in the game and threw three touchdown
passes.
Giants are now going to face Carolina Panthers in Week 3 game on Thursday, September 20, and they are hoping to win the encounter and take the lead in the division.
