New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin knew quarterback Eli Manning would come back – NFL News
After a few below-par performances, pressure was increasing on New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning to perform well. The quarterback silenced all his critics by displaying an outstanding show during Week 12 victory against Green Bay Packers.
Manning’s performance had not been very impressive since Week 8 game against Dallas Cowboys. Since the Giants won that game, the quarterback was not criticised a lot, but the ensuing two defeats – against Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals – brought
Manning in the line of fire.
As the Giants headed into their bye, they got good rest and Manning, too, was able to get his mind off all the troubles. When he returned to the field after the bye, he impressed everyone, particularly head coach Tom Coughlin.
Manning got the offence going right from the start of the game and kept on generating scoring opportunities that eventually resulted in his team’s victory.
While appreciating the quarterback for his performance, Coughlin asserted that he had no doubt on Manning’s talent and that he knew that the quarterback would be able to stage a comeback.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of Manning:
“There was no doubt that he was going to come back and play well, in my mind. I think the rest really helped him as well as all of our other players. As a matter of fact, Eli said he felt as if he was coming back for the start of a season. I was very confident
that he would come back and redeem it.”
The Giants have done well to end their short losing streak and they must now focus on staying on winning ways. They must not slump as they did last year because other teams in National Football Conference (NFC) East can take advantage of it this time.
The Giants do not have any threat from the Philadelphia Eagles, who are a mess this season, but the defending champions could face some challenge from the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, especially the latter.
Giants are two wins ahead of Redskins and Cowboys, who are tied at second spot in NFC East.
